Aerial view of a barge being unloaded on the banks of the Rhône at Arelate (Arles). The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within an ink frame. Traces of watercolor and graphite are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The scene takes place on the quays of Trinquetaille. Barges, moored in the port, are being loaded and unloaded with their cargoes. Here, the barge Arles-Rhône 3 is shown unloading limestone. Donkeys pulling carts help transport the goods. In the upper left-hand corner, a crane is used to handle heavier cargo. Warehouses, shown in the lower left-hand corner, are used to store goods. A courtyard shows the storage of a cargo of wine amphorae.
