Presentation :

Front view of the interior of the triclinium of the Villa de la Verrerie in Arelate (Arles). The drawing is in portrait format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The scene depicts a banquet. It takes place in a rich room adorned with wall paintings and the Aïon mosaic (now in the Musée Départemental Arles Antique, VER.1983.80). Five couples are comfortably seated, two by two, on benches. They are sipping wine from bowls. A maid prepares the mixture and pours the contents of an amphora into a crater.
