Presentation :

Aerial view of the towpath and boat bridge at Arelate (Arles). The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The Rhône River appears in the lower part of the scene. On the right, the boat bridge allows the movement of people and goods. Here, the drawbridge is raised to allow the passage of a barge, which men pull from the shore onto the towpath. A monumental arch marks the end of the bridge and the entrance to the Trinquetaille district. The Rhone arch follows in its wake. Houses are built around it.
