Frontal view of the priests of the imperial cult in the forum of Arelate (Arles). The drawing is in portrait format, organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The scene depicts a religious ceremony in the city’s forum square, behind the shield. Priests, dressed in white, are depicted in the foreground. The congregation stands behind them. In the background are the portico, the temple and an altar on which a sacrifice has been performed. White smoke is still billowing from the altar.
