The city is organized on either side of the Rhône. On the left is the Trinquetaille district, with its numerous domus, port and warehouses. This district is linked to the left bank by two boat bridges. Arelate developed within a fortified enclosure. A number of buildings stand among the houses. The forum is located in the axis of the first bridge. It consists of a courtyard surrounded by a portico that opens onto two other courtyards. The first ends in two exedras, while the second houses the temple. It is also flanked by an open-air market. A basilica and thermal baths are nearby. Behind it are the semicircular theater and the elliptical amphitheater. The circus is built outside the city, between the river and a marshy area, in the lower part of the drawing.
