Aerial view of the Baths of Constantine and the Late-Empire Basilica of Arelate (Arles). The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of ink and watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The 5th-century basilica stands in the lower part of the drawing. Higher up, the thermal baths are located on the banks of the river. They can be identified by their double gable and conch roofs, evoking the succession of different baths. Adjacent to the baths, an open-air courtyard was used for physical activities (palestra). Athletes trained here.
