Front view of the triumphal arch and necropolis at Arausio (Orange). The drawing is in portrait format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins.
A paved road leads to a triumphal arch, behind which is a necropolis with sculpted sarcophagi. The monumental arch has three levels. The first features three semicircular arches of varying heights. They are flanked by columns with fluted shafts and Corinthian capitals. The spandrels of the secondary arches feature sculpted decorations. Two superimposed attics rise above this first level. They are decorated with a pediment and richly sculpted decoration.
The ensemble is surmounted by three groups sculpted in the round. In the center, two horses gallop along the track. They are surrounded by two other figures.
