Aerial view of Antinoopolis (Antinoe). The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Inscriptions are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
Situated between the Nile, which develops in the lower part of the drawing, and the Arabian chain, visible in the background, the city is organized within a wall and according to an orthogonal checkerboard plan. The cardo (north-south axis), bordered by a portico, runs the length of the city. Four monumental columns stand at each intersection. On the banks of the river, you can see the forum with its courtyard surrounded by a colonnaded portico. The mausoleum of Antinous and the theater are located at either end of the cardo. The semi-circular building is flanked by a courtyard adorned with a portico. The racecourse is relegated to the background, outside the fortified enclosure. A port was built on the banks.
