Aerial view of Alexandria (Alexandria), in the High Kingdom. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The town is set between the Mediterranean coastline, visible in the upper section, and the shores of Lake Mareotis, visible in the lower section. It is set within a huge enclosure. Dwellings are arranged in an orthogonal checkerboard pattern. The canal leading to the Nile lies on its outskirts. The large port is enclosed by the royal buildings, the lighthouse, the island of Pharos and a dike. A second, smaller port is located on the lake side.
A scale and compass rose are shown at bottom right.
