The scene is set on the banks of the Nile, below Abydos, which can be seen in the background. Funeral processions move along the river. Barques, with their carved sails, are towed by men standing on the banks. The deceased are laid to rest on the decks of the boats. Nearby, fields are cultivated by farmers.
