Presentation :

Front view of a wine press. The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the partially preserved margins.
Two men are operating a wine press. The containers to the right of the drawing show the juice harvested by this maneuver. The press consists of a large tree trunk held horizontally. One end is fixed with wedges, while the other can be raised or lowered with a pulley and ropes. A lever sets the trunk in motion and crushes the grape marc.
The composition was inspired by the reconstruction of Cato’s wine press and the Saint-Romain-en-Gal mosaic.
