The town lies in the valley on the eastern bank of the Nile. A long royal road runs through it from north to south. Akhenaten’s palace and the Temple of the Aten stand out among the houses. In the background, surrounded by cultivated fields, lies Hermopolis.

The royal palace is located along the Nile, visible in the lower right-hand corner of the drawing. The royal residence and private apartments are in the upper left-hand corner of the drawing. The Grand Palais, with its administrative and official rooms, is on the right. The Royal Way separates the two spaces. It is crossed by a building housing the King’s appearance window.

Small necropolises can be seen on the right-hand side of the drawing. In the lower part of the drawing, workers return from work, accompanied by their mules.
