Aerial view of Memphis in the 4th century BC. The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
This is a hypothetical evocation of Memphis. The city lies along the Nile. Canals penetrate the city and divide it into plots. The city’s artisan quarter is located in the lower left, on the banks of the Nile, not far from the Préounefer docks shown above. Above the docks stands the temple of the goddess Hathor. On the right-hand side of the drawing, a vast enclosure can be seen, inside which are the temple dedicated to Ptah and the embalming house of Apis. Further on, a second cult enclosure. On the horizon are several necropolises with pyramids: Abu Gorab and Abousir on the right, Saqqara-North in the center and Saqqara-South on the left.
